Our third annual, “Rally For Victims” consisted of colorful posters being held in air, honoring victims and bringing awareness, an educational booth containing the “Wall of Shame” plastered with mugshots and deadly convictions of offenders, many of which are repeat offenders and still roaming the streets as, “Highway Predators”. Dustin Coberley honoring victims of drunken driving. Haley Purdam is seen acting the part of disoriented passenger of the mock-crash. This year’s annual event also included a reenactment of a mock-crash, sponsored by Saint John’s Trauma Unit, Tulsa and directed by Dala Stamps.

The actors demonstrated such skill as they each portrayed a real life victim, their bodies dripping realistic blood as their dazed and confused faces displayed extreme bruising of black and blue.

placed her lifeless body on a gurney, hoisting her into Lifeflight where she was flown to Saint John's, Owasso. Joining of the Hands” making a chain in honor of all victims. The mock-crash was the first to be open to the public as Saint John's usual routine is to perform the eye-opening reenactment to high schools as a technique of sending a message to students of “Don’t Drink and Drive”. Drunken Driving affects all of our lives and on a daily basis, not realizing that these drunken offenders are behind the wheel, morning, noon or night as we may be approaching their “Deadly Encounters”. Carolyn Heinig, is one example of just how fast our loved one can be taken from us and at the hands of a selfish drunken driver. Fourteen years ago and as a first responder to a drunken driving crash, Carolyn had no idea that she was responding to the crash site in which her own seventeen year old son, Nick would within minutes be drawing his last breath as he would be cradled in his mother’s arms.
No parent should ever have to bury their child and at the hands of a selfish drunken driver.
We must join together to bring awareness and honor victims by being their voice.
“Please Don’t Drink And Drive, It Takes Innocent Lives”
The Aaron Gillming Foundation would like to thank all of the participants who helped in creating this very informative and educational reenactment, bringing awareness to the epidemic of drinking and driving.
We’d like to extend a special “Thank You” to the Owasso Police Department and officers for taking time out of their busy schedules to arrest the drunken driver and oversee the mess he created.
We’d also like to extend a special “Thank You” to the Owasso Fire Department and paramedics for performing their part of “Life Savers” as they very much are just that.
A special “Thank You” is also extended to Saint John’s Trauma Unit and their make-up-artists and RN’s, Carolyn Heinig and Dala Stamps for all of their hard work in putting this mock-crash together.
Our third annual "Rally For Victims" was a great success and we look forward to next year's annual event. |
